TARDEC Cuts Storage Volume 96% With New Tape System

Boulder, Colo.-based Spectra Logic, a leading innovator of intelligently integrated data protection systems, announced that the United States Army's Tank-Automotive Research, Development and Engineering Center in Waren had selected two Spectra T950 tape libraries using LTO-4 technology.

The U.S. Army TARDEC removed a Sun StorageTek L700e tape library and replaced it with the T950, and realized immediate savings in backup operator time and cost, freed data center floor space, increased capacity by 990 percent and eased administration through the library’s user-friendly management interface.

With two Spectra T950 libraries, the U.S. Army TARDEC was able to designate one for classified data and the other for unclassified data, which eased its administrative burden.

The Spectra T950 tape libraries work with Symantec NetBackup software to back up and protect more than 22TB of data weekly.
