Washington (WWJ) -- It may be small...but it's safe.
The new 2008 "Smart fortwo" commuter car has earned high marks in crash tests conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety.
The 8' 8" micro car--the smallest vehicle sold in America--got a rating of "good" in front-end and side-impact testing. That's the highest mark the Insurance Institute gives in such tests.
The Institute's president, Adrian Lund, says the Smart fortwo may be more practical in congested urban areas where serious, high-speed accidents are less likely to occur.
