Your child’s writing does not need to always be about the big topics of life. Many children, even those just learning how to write stories, do well working on “small moments” in their writing. Like a still life painting or drawing, a small moment is one in which only one thing happens, and it can just be a scene of a larger story.
Getting to focus on something short helps kids think about what is important and what can be left out, and allows them to write about something interesting in their lives. If you have your child write about small moments, do not be surprised if they start asking you to do it too!
