Science Is All Around!
|
Science is happening all around us every day. As parents our job is to point out to children the many changes taking place in our environment and stop to examine items closely and ask questions.
Some ideas to stimulate interest in science include taking your child on walks around the neighborhood and have them collect small rocks and leaves on the ground. They can observe the differences in each and talk about what they see.
Use a clear container and collect some snow to bring inside to watch what happens. Put some snow in the freezer, some in the refrigerator and some on a counter. Have your child describe what happens after 30 minutes.
With spring coming it is a perfect time to plant a garden or some seeds in a pot and watch them grow.
National Geographic has a web site on Science News for Kinds to help fire your child's imagination at www.sciencenewsforkids.org/.
