Detroit (WWJ) -- WWJ Newsradio 950 was proud to join the Salvation Army of Metro Detroit for the Third Annual "Red Kettle Day" on Monday, December 22nd.
The Army's annual Red Kettle Campaign throughout Wayne, Oakland and Macomb counties is trying to raise $8.5 million to assist families in need.
Through Dec. 24, bell ringers will collect donations at more than 300 red kettles located at retailers and businesses such as WalMart and Macy's.
Major Norman Marshall, divisional commander of The Salvation Army of Metro Detroit, asks the community for support in this time of need.
“It is our mission to do the most good with the community's contributions” Mashall said, “by offering hope with rehabilitation, providing food for the hungry, clothing and shelter to the homeless and opportunities for underprivileged children.”
WWJ Morning Anchors Joe Donovan and Roberta Jasina joined a cadre of bell ringers across Metro Detroit, urging shoppers to give what they could to help others in need. Throughout the day, WWJ listeners heard stories about the good the Salvation Army does every day in Southeast Michigan.
Your help is still needed. Contributions can be made until Jan. 31, 2008 by calling (877) SAL-MICH or online at www.salmich.org.
