Salmonella Concerns Force Recalls



Southfield (WWJ)  -- Sauce mixes and hot cocoa mix pouches are being recalled because of salmonella concerns.  

The following recalls have been announced because the products may be contaminated with salmonella, an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections, especially in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems:
   ---
   C.F. Sauer Co. is recalling select batches of several of its sauce mixes. No illness has been reported. The recall includes select code dates of brown gravy, brown gravy with mushrooms, brown gravy with onions, turkey gravy, pork gravy, country sausage gravy, country style gravy, Alfredo sauce mix, Cajun gumbo mix and Hollandaise sauce mix produced under the Sauer's, Gold Medal and Piggly Wiggly labels. The recalled sauce mixes were sold in Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Mississippi, Michigan, Ohio, Tennessee, Virginia, West Virginia, Kentucky, Florida and Pennsylvania.    Trans-Packers Services Corp. is recalling about 6,300 packets of Dairy Shake blends. No illness has been reported. The recall includes: 6,000 packets of strawberry/banana flavored mix, 200 packets of vanilla flavored mix and 100 packets of strawberry flavored mix. The packets were distributed nationwide through Emergency Essentials Inc. and Saratoga Trading Co.

   Max Muscle Sports Nutrition is recalling seven whey protein concentrate products. No illness has been reported. The recall includes various lots and flavors of Big Max 50, Max Gourmet, Max Lean, Max Gourmet Gainer, High Five, Triple Whey and Max Pro products. The recalled items were manufactured in January and February, and distributed nationwide beginning in January. Details: by phone at 888-629-6872, extension 119.

   Calico Cottage Inc. is recalling 10-ounce gourmet hot cocoa mix pouches. No illness has been reported. The recalled pouches are marked with lot numbers 101.08.15 or 311.08.45. They were distributed nationwide, as well as in Canada, and under several different retailer names. Details: by phone at 800-645-5345.
