For many kids, reading seems boring compared to playing outside or on the computer. But you can bring books and stories to life using the technique of reader’s theater, in which a story is used as the beginning of a play that kids can put on themselves.
Eastern Michigan University faculty, such as Dr. Anita Rich, use stories as the beginning point of creating a play, that kids can change according to their own ideas. A readers theater might have several actors, as well as a director, and even someone to record the production.
The main goal of readers theater is to get the story from the page to the stage, so memorization is not required.
