Ratios and Lemonade

By David Turner

Summer is a great time for lemonade as well as for reviewing math concepts. An easy way to do both is to help your child think about ratios at the same time you are making lemonade.

With some lemon juice, sugar, water and measuring cups, you and your child can try different combinations of ingredients, written as a ratio. You may find that the ratio of a cup of lemon juice to a cup of sugar to two cups of water is too sour. Time to adjust your ratio!

Once you have a formula you like you can scale it up to make even more lemonade for your friends.
