While you, as a parent, can provide a great deal of help and guidance for your student, consider what a mentor might do to help reinforce what you are saying.
Young people need a team of adults in their lives who help guide them on a path to success. Mentoring programs through church, community organizations or school can help provide young people with a range of adults who can help the young person make better decisions.
There are a range of programs in our area, from Big Brothers/Big Sisters to 100 Black Men of Detroit, that provide mentoring for youth and may be able to help your child reach his or her potential.
