Adult Supervision Guidelines

Unsupervised Auto Show-goers under 18 won't be allowed after 5 p.m.

The Detroit Police Department has announced that the Guidelines for Weekend Adult Supervision that were implemented during the North American International Auto Show (N.A.I.A.S.) over the past three years will be in effect for 2008’s event as well.

The guidelines indicate that all minors under the age of 18 visiting the N.A.I.A.S after the hours of 5 p.m. MUST be accompanied by a responsible (supervising) adult 21 years of age or older.  Loitering will not be permitted outside of Cobo Conference Exhibition Center either, so drivers who are picking up patrons are encouraged to be prompt.

The guidelines will be in effect every weekend for the duration of the N.A.I.A.S from 5 p.m until closing (Saturdays and Sundays from January 19th through January 27th). Enforcement of the guidelines will also be enforced on Monday, January 21st when schools are out for the holiday.

Police say the guidelines have been adopted in an ongoing effort to provide a safe environment and comfortable experience for ALL visitors of the North American International Auto Show.

If an individual is determined to be under the age of 18 and without adult supervision, he/she faces being escorted from the premises by Detroit Police. Assistance will be given if the young person needs help contacting an adult.  Loiterers also face receiving tickets, which could result in fines. As always, in addition to uniformed officers, undercover officers will be in attendance to ensure public safety and monitor the premises.
