Detroit (WWJ) -- Detroit businessman and racing mogul Roger Penske tells WWJ that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick should step down.
Penske is the latest leader to come forward and call for the mayor's resignation. Speaking to WWJ Newsradio 950 on Belle Isle, ahead of this weekend's Grand Prix races.
"At this particular time, with all the pressure, it's time that he moves on and takes another role in his life. The more we sit here and pull an angle, it does him no good and certainly does the city no good," Penske said in a live interview with WWJ's Joe Donovan and Roberta Jasina.
When asked if the ongoing scandal has hurt the city, Penske said, "I supported him during the time he did an outstanding job here in the city. It's unfortunate that the personal things have gotten in his way, and then we get more and more of this 'what happened here' and 'what happened there' and that's what hurts us, because we really don't know. We've got to think about the future and move on."
Meantime, Penske said everything was ready for this weekend's races on Belle Isle. Friday is Free Prix Day starting at 8 a.m. Penske is also among Forbes' list of 400 richest Americans and chaired the Super Bowl XL Host Committee.
