Papers Say FOIA Rights Attacked In Text Scandal Case

Detroit (WWJ)  -- The Detroit News and Free Press have asked a judge to bar lawyers for Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick and his ex-chief of staff, Christine Beatty, from questioning reporters about sexually explicit text messages.

The papers told a Wayne County Judge that the lawyers are using efforts to question reporters to attack the papers' Freedom of Information Act request for copies of messages between Kilpatrick and ex-aide Christine Beatty.

Beatty's lawyer, Mayer Morganroth, tells the News that the papers opened the door to being questioned when they sued for the information.
