Biomin International to Develop Business Ties with PAT Engineering

Biomin International, Inc., an Oak Park-based oil and water separation and filtration company, hosted PAT Engineering Enterprises WLL, an engineering company located in Doha, Qatar at the Biomin facility on Meyers Road in Oak Park.

Shrawan Tiwari, Executive Manager from Doha, Qatar traveled to southeast Michigan during the week of June 15-19 to identify and develop business opportunities in both geographical areas.

The factory visit was conducted on Tuesday, June 16, and consisted of introductions, company presentations by both Biomin International and PAT Engineering and a guided visit of the Biomin manufacturing facility. The group of attendees included representatives of the Oak Park City Council including Councilwoman Angela Diggs Jackson and Councilman Paul Levine as well as Randy Leipnik, President of Semper Media Group and PAT Engineering USA Representatives including Carol Spellman, Vice President and Rick Weaver, Consultant.

During the factory visit, PAT Engineering Representatives were shown the detailed step-by-step procedure of converting raw materials including Bentonite into the final product called Organoclay.

Said Tiwari after the meeting: "Biomin has a fantastic product which meets the requirements for green concepts worldwide and water is the lifeline for the entire world. The product of Biomin is quite handy to make life better."

Said Spellman: "I was quite impressed with the presentation on the application of Organoclays, excited by the opportunities and believe Biomin's Michigan-based product line can add to the quality of life for many around the world.".

"We have identified several market sectors that are worthwhile for both PAT Engineering and Biomin to explore," said Biomin president and founder George Alther. "They include: brownfield dewatering, construction site dewatering, storm-water runoff cleanup, industrial process water and produced water cleanup. We will jointly pursue these markets, as preserving water is a major concern in the Middle East."

Based on the factory visit and presentations, Biomin International is currently in discussions for the development of a joint venture with PAT Engineering for use of Organoclay initially in Qatar and India. The "one-stop-shop" concept of the global waste water treatment concept currently being developed by Technofluids North America will be further discussed based on the success of Organoclay in the Middle East.

Biomin International is interested in developing international contacts for markets in SE Michigan dedicated to global waste water treatment processes. Joseph P. Cool, the company's director of exports and international business development, said: "Having previously lived in Doha, Qatar and worked with with Qatar Petroleum, I am confident that this initial factory visit and subsequent conversations will provide a very good platform for future development of Biomin in Qatar initially and ultimately globally".

Biomin International manufactures state-of-the-art water filtration media and flocculants for removal of oil, grease, and other organics (i.e. PCBs, PNAH, PCP, and color/tannin) from water. Biomin filtration products are used throughout the world and have been approved for use by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Defense, U.S. Department of Energy, the Iowa Department of Transportation, and other federal and state environmental protection departments. Its products have documented case study results that indicate cost savings up to 50 percent while bringing customer facilities into compliance with governmental discharge requirements.
