The City of Farmington Hills offers dozens of programs for area adults age 50 and better at the Center for Active Adults, located in the Costick Center on 11 Mile Road between Middlebelt and Inkster. The Center is open Monday - Friday from 9:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Lunch is served daily, $2.75 for ages 60 and better, $5 for under 60. Here are a few of the programs available in November.
Vital Woman: Home Décor 101. Monday, Nov. 2, 6 - 7 p.m. Develop your own personal style with tips from a professional decorator on furniture placement, fabric, and accessories. Fee is $5.
Managing Diabetes. Tuesday, Nov. 3, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Keep diabetes under control with helpful information about medications, nutrition, fitness, and more from an instructor from Sinai Hospital. Fee is $5.
Book Discussion. Thursday, Nov. 5, 1 p.m. Stealing Buddha’s Dinner by Bich Minh Nguyen. Join a lively, informal book discussion on the first Thursday of each month. Paperback copies are available in advance for checkout.
Stars and Stripes Forever. Friday, Nov. 6, 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. Salute veterans at our annual commemoration of those who served their country. Join us for a ceremony and speeches, luncheon, and dancing to a live band. Fee is $8.
Driver Safety Program. Wednesday, Nov. 11 and Thursday, Nov. 12, 10 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. Participate in an AARP-sponsored driver refresher course that may reduce the cost of your auto insurance. Attendance at both days required. Fee is $15.
Sleep Well. Tuesday, Nov. 17, 10:30 – 11:30 a.m. Find out how to get the best night’s sleep possible with proven methods and techniques from a specialist from the DMC Geriatric Center. Fee is $5.
Lifelong Learning at Longacre: Choosing Children’s Books. Wednesday, Nov. 18, 10 – 11 a.m. Learn how to choose books that engage children’s imagination and sense of wonder. Many samples will be brought by a Farmington Community Librarian. Fee is $5.
Thanksgiving Party. Thursday, Nov. 19, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. Join us for a traditional Thanksgiving meal, entertainment, turkey bingo, and prizes. Fee is $8 by Nov. 13 deadline; $10 after.
Movie Monday. Monday, Nov. 30, 12 - 3 p.m. After a great meal, relax and enjoy watching My Life in Ruins. Includes popcorn, candy, and a beverage. Fee is $5.
Several support groups are also available at the Center for Active Adults including Caregivers, Grief and Loss, First Step Stroke, and Vision Impaired.
