New Web Site Offers Online Memorials

A new Web site has been launched to provide an online home for videos featuring memorials and tributes to people.

TributeTube, at www.tributetube.com, gives users the chance to post online videos in honor of a friend, a loved one or an admired celebrity.

“In a modern society, the newspaper obituary will be replaced, or at the very least supplemented, via online videos and photo tributes,” said Robert Burkhart, spokesman for TributeTube. “TributeTube allows for people to memorialize, pay tribute, and grieve in 3D.”

In addition to personal reminiscences of loved ones, the site also provides space for remembering events like 9/11, Columbine and the Minneapolis bridge collapse. The site also allows for the celebration of religious figures, celebrities, musicians, military veterans and political figures. The site even has a category that allows for pets to be remembered.

“There are quite a few memorials posted on YouTube, but in our opinion that is not an appropriate site for such sensitive online videos," Burkhart said. "We intend on monitoring our site quite closely, constantly checking on comments posted about online videos. One of the issues with videos posted on YouTube was the profusion of inappropriate and offensive comments attached to very personal video material. We believe our site corrects this painful situation.”
