New Health Care Databases From ProQuest

Ann Arbor-based ProQuest Co. unveiled ProQuest Hospital Collection at the Medical Library Association’s Annual Conference in Chicago this week.

ProQuest Hospital Collection centralizes access to discovery and advisory tools essential to the practice and business of health care and is the first collection to address the expanse of hospital information needs with a single resource.

“Hospitals have a dramatic span of information needs -- from medicine to nursing and patient care to the demands of running a business, marketing, presentations and so on,” said ProQuest’s senior vice president of publishing, Suzanne BeDell. “ProQuest Hospital Collection makes life easier for hospitals by answering all their information needs in one spot with one search path.”

ProQuest Hospital Collection assembles five top health and medicine databases, and includes full text articles from 2,100 seminal medical journals, including full text of The New England Journal of Medicine and The Lancet. ProQuest Hospital Collection also includes over 19,000 doctoral dissertations, providing cutting edge research, as well as resources in the burgeoning field of evidence-based medicine.

Databases include ProQuest Health and Medical Complete, which offers in-depth coverage from leading medical publications; ProQuest Nursing & Allied Health Source, covering nursing, allied health, alternative and complementary medicine including full text evidence-based nursing resources; plus, ProQuest Psychology Journals, which deliver full text from leading psychology and psychosomatic publications.

Two additional databases dramatically expand the information needs ProQuest Hospital Collection can serve: ProQuest Health Management delivers resources for professional health care administrators and those managing the business of health care, while ProQuest Family Health covers a vast array of subjects of interest to the hospital patient including sports injuries, women's health, food and nutrition, eye care and dentistry.

Despite the depth and sophistication of the content, the search interface is simple and straightforward, allowing users at any level of search prowess to navigate quickly to their target. Because it’s an online resource, users can get find answers to their questions from their desktops, whether that’s in a nurse’s station or an administrator’s office.

ProQuest Hospital Collection is a major addition to ProQuest’s growing presence in the medical information market. The company has an active product development program dedicated to  delivering a variety of new health and medicine information tools that will accelerate research at all levels.
