Mayor Not Welcome At Dem Convention

LANSING (WWJ)  -- The Obama campaign said Thursday that Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick should not attend the Democratic National Convention later this month.

The court said earlier Thursday that Mayor Kilpatrick could go to Denver, releasing him from bond restrictions that were keeping him in the state.

But , as WWJ Newsradio 950 Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports, the host said he doesn't want Kilpatrick there. The Barack Obama campaign, in a very swift acknowledgment of the mayor's problems, told him basically: Stay home. We don't want the distraction.

Tim Skubick reports that while it may not be what Kilpatrick wanted to hear, the statement was politically correct from Obama's point of view.
