Doing the Most Good Week, celebrated by The Salvation Army May 11-17, 2008, is designed to call attention to individuals and groups, who through their actions and donations are “doing the most good” to help the communities in which they live and work.
It's not at all tough to participate. “Doing the Most Good” is as easy as opening the door for someone, greeting people you encounter with a smile or saying something nice to everyone you meet during the course of the day. Click here for some more ideas of simple ways you can do the most good.
Doing The Most Good Week Schedule
Sunday, May 11: “Doing the Most Good by Loving Your Mother Day”
The Salvation Army will host a special Mother’s Day brunch at their Ellen Thompson Family Shelter. Show your appreciation for mom, by making a donation to The Salvation Army in her honor to provide food and shelter to families in need.
Monday, May 12: “Doing the Most Good for the Needy Day”
Try to live on the average food stamp allowance of $3 per day. The money you save can be donated to help feed the need. A donation of $10 will feed one person one meal for a month.
Tuesday, May 13: “Doing the Most Good – Make Someone Smile Day”
Extend a helping hand to a family member, friend or someone in your school, church or neighborhood. Your donation of $75 to The Salvation Army helps sponsor life skills and parenting classes for a new mother and father.
Wednesday, May 14: “Doing the Most Good for Your Mind, Body & Soul Day”
Join us at Detroit’s Campus Martius Park from 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. to get up and get moving! Emergency Disaster Services will be handing out bottled water and The Salvation Army Outdoors Program will provide recreational opportunities, including a casting demonstration from pro-angler, Trent Lee. The Salvation Army’s Brass Band will perform a FREE concert at 12 p.m. Help do the most good by sending two children to The Salvation Army’s summer camp with a donation of $500.
Thursday, May 15: “Doing the Most Good for Children Day”
"Build a Backpack" for underprivileged children at one of The Salvation Army’s after-school programs. A donation of $25 will allow children to attend an after-school program at one of our community corps.
Friday, May 16: “Doing the Most Good in your Jeans Day”
Encourage people at your office to wear their blue jeans to work in exchange for a charitable donation to The Salvation Army.
Saturday, May 17: “Doing the WRITE Thing Day”
The Salvation Army celebrates Armed Forces Day by continuing the legacy of The Salvation Army Lassie. You can show your appreciation by sending a letter or a care package to a soldier currently serving our country.
