Manufacturing Tech Buyout In Kalamazoo

Kalamazoo Acquisition Corp., the parent company of Kalamazoo-based Prab Conveyors and Hapman Corp., Monday announced the acquisition of Envirodyne Technologies, also headquartered in Kalamazoo.

The Envirodyne suite of companies includes STC Dip Spin, The Monlan Group and Kalamazoo Fabricating.

STC Dip Spin, www.stcdipspin.com, has served the finishing industry since 1965. The division offers centrifugal coating equipment used to apply corrosive resistant paints and coatings on bulk parts. STC Dip Spin’s full line of equipment is used by major automotive companies and their suppliers as well as major hardware  manufacturers.

The MonlanGroup, at www.monlangroup.com, supplies coolant recovery and filtration systems. Its full line of tramp oil separators, coolant recovery, coolant filtration and ultra-filtration equipment is sold through the division’s office in Kalamazoo as well as its sales and service center in Cleveland, Ohio.

Kalamazoo Fabricating Division, at www.kalfab.com, is a full service steel and stainless steel fabricating facility. Established in 1987, Kal-Fab supplies a full range of fabricated assemblies, from the simplest machined and fabricated parts to complex, fully assembled, tested and operational machines.

“Kal-Fab has been a valued supplier to both Prab and Hapman over the years and the MonlanGroup’s coolant conditioning equipment is a natural extension to Prab’s chip processing equipment offerings and vice-versa," said Ned Thompson, KAC president and CEO. “The STC Dip Spin line allows us to diversify into markets that we would have been otherwise unable to penetrate and furthers our commitment to creating jobs for Michigan families.”

Said Envirodyne president Tim Hanna: “We’re truly excited about joining forces with Prab to offer a wider range of solutions to our existing and potential customer base, regarding coolant filtration and chip handling equipment ... We look forward to working with team members at both Prab and Hapman to determine best in class manufacturing, marketing, and service related techniques.”

Established in 1950, Prab is a major supplier of scrap processing and scrap handling equipment and has been located in Kalamazoo since 1961. Serving the dry bulk powder markets, Hapman is a leading producer of bulk material handling equipment for the food, pharmaceutical and chemical industries.

Together Prab, Hapman, and Envirodyne Technologies employ 122 people in Kalamazoo, and another six in Westlake, Ohio.
