The Ann Arbor-based Michigan Manufacturing Technology Center and the Wayne County Economic Development Growth Engine will jointly host a four part series at the Downriver Community Center in Southgate specifically for manufacturers.
“With the pressures of this deep economic recession, it’s important for Michigan manufacturers to know that support from the federal Manufacturing Extension Partnership exists.” said Mike Coast, president of the MMTC. “By collaborating with the good folks at Wayne County EDGE, we hope to make the manufacturers of Wayne County aware that our training and services can positively impact their operations and spur growth with new business with new customers, in new markets.”
Added Wayne County Executive Robert A. Ficano: “Michigan’s automotive suppliers and manufacturers have created one of the largest high-tech workforces in the nation, and Wayne County’s manufacturing base is second-to-none. These companies have the specialized machinery and technological know-how to take full advantage of the manufacturing opportunities presented by new growth industries. Wayne County’s series with the MMTC will assist our manufacturers with identifying ways to diversify and produce new goods and services that can be sold to the rest of the world.”
The co-hosted morning sessions (offered as part of the MMTC Learn about series are open to small and medium sized manufacturers in Wayne County) will kick-off in July 23 with a presentation highlighting all of MMTC improvement training approaches. Each of series will begin at 8:30am and topics will include:
July 23 -- Opening kick-off session with discussion of funding opportunities
August 26 -- Applying LEAN manufacturing principles to any business process
September 15 -- Introducing QMS and Six Sigma within your business operating system
October – Market diversification to secure new business and the importance of web presence
