Lawsuit Filed Over Freezing Death

Detroit (WWJ)  -- A lawsuit has been filed against a local independent living facility over the death of Joe Louis' sister, Vunies High.

Ninety-two-year old High, who was diagnosed with Alzheimers, was found frozen to death outside the Heather Wood Senior Living apartments in Southfield, where she lived.

"Here she walked out the front door of the building and was left all night, in the freezing cold," said Richard Bernstein, who's representing the family.

"And then was found, just a few short feet in front of the front door, not until ten o'clock the next morning," Bernstein said. He says they are seeking damages and changes in policy at the facility.

Wednesday evening, WWJ was awaiting return calls from Heatherwood owners for comment on the lawsuit.
