Langostinos Recall

A seafood company on Friday issued a voluntary recall of its cooked langostinos because of possible listeria contamination.
About 450 pounds of the recalled ``Icybay Cooked Langostinos'' from Boston-based Slade Gorton & Co. were sold in 1-pound packages to retailers in Massachusetts and Maryland, Chief Financial Officer Michael Smith said. He said the bulk of it was pulled off shelves Thursday.
The product was sold in retail stores in a clear plastic package marked with UPC 0-73129-61672-8.
About 11,000 pounds were sold to wholesalers in 19 states over the last four months, Smith said. The states are: Colorado, Connecticut, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Vermont, West Virginia and Wisconsin.
Smith said Slade Gorton notified major retailers Thursday after the Canadian Food Inspection Agency found a sample believed contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes, which can cause fatal infections, as well as miscarriages in pregnant women. It is the company's first consumer recall in its 80-year history, Smith said.
The company said no sicknesses related to the product have been reported.
Slade Gorton said it and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration were investigating the source of any potential problem.
A langostino, also called a squat lobster, is a crustacean between a shrimp and a lobster in appearance.
