Knight Foundation To Give $5M In Grants To Detroit

Detroit (AP)  -- The John S. and James L. Knight Foundation is announcing $5 million in grants in Detroit.

The foundation plans to unveil the awards Wednesday.

The organization says the grants will be awarded to help the city's ``creative sector'' as well as increase job training and expand free Internet access.

The Miami-based foundation primarily supports media innovation, journalism and communities where the Knight brothers once owned newspapers. Knight Ridder Inc. formerly owned the Detroit Free Press.
