Cooking with your children can be a very rewarding activity. To keep both you and your children safe while working with foods of all kinds, follow these simple rules.
Make sure your kids are washing their hands before, during, and after handling food. Keep all the surfaces in your kitchen clean and disinfected by using disposable sanitizing wipes. When preparing your goodies, try to avoid cross-contamination by keeping raw meats away from other foods.
And, once you’re done preparing your snack or meal, make sure you cook your food to proper temperatures. If you’re unsure of the correct temperature, purchase an inexpensive food thermometer. Most of these food thermometers will have the correct temperatures for various types of meats listed on the case.
After you have feasted on your goodies, store your leftovers in a refrigerator kept at 40˚F or cooler. Remember to congratulate your children on a job well done!
