Jazz Fest Lineup Announced

DETROIT (WWJ) -- The line-up for the 29th Annual Detroit International Jazz Festival was announced Wednesday. The anticipated event will attract thousands of music lovers to downtown August 29-September 1.
In 2008, the Detroit Jazz Fest will celebrate the rich musical traditions of Philadelphia and Detroit and the “Trane” that connects them.
WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Sweeting spoke with this year's guest artist in residence, Philadelphia bass player Christian McBride. "This line up is absolutely incredible...it's going to be a fantastic year," McBride said.
Billed as A Love Supreme: the Philly/Detroit Summit, the festival will feature artists including Dianne Reeves, Hank Jones, Gerald Wilson, Geri Allen, along with Philly stalwarts Benny Golson, Jimmy Heath, Joey DeFrancesco, Pat Martino and many more.
In the meantime, keep an eye our for another new Detroit Jazz Fest poster to your collection. This year's artist is talented Detroiter Camilo Pardo, an automotive, fashion and furniture designer. Pardo said he was very honored to have been selected, "I did an oil painting of all the elements that basically discribe the Detroit Jazz Festival --- and some instruments and the Ren Cen. And basically and energy that is created by all this," he said. Listen to the full interview.
