Inside Glimpse Of The Book Cadillac

Detroit (WWJ)  -- It's one of the most talked about developments in the city of Detroit.  The renovation of the Book Cadillac building on Washington Boulevard in downtown.

WWJ's Vickie Thomas rode to the top of the historic building on the construction elevator on the outside of the building and toured several floors including the penthouses, where you can see the baseball field at Comerica Park.

Windows are in on the floors that will house hotel rooms and residential units.  But plastic is covering window-openings on the lower floors.

300-400 workers each day are doing drywall, piping, and other work.  Some rooms are already painted, but the fixtures and trim work still need to be installed.

Scott Stinebaugh,  Book Cadillac's director of sales, said 61 of 67 lofts have been gobbled up already.  And the Westin Hotel is already booked for the 2009 Auto Show.

The Book Cadillac is expected to open in the fall of 2008.

The hotel is be the latest renovation project in Detroit.  The Ferchill Group from Cleveland is the main developer.

The Detroit Institute of Arts opened last Friday to rave reviews after a six year, 158-million dollar makeover.  MGM Grand Casino opened its new casino and hotel in early October.  Wednesday, Motor City Casino opens its new hotel at Grand River and the Lodge Freeway.
