Troy-based Ilumisys Inc., developer and producer of next-generation solid-state lighting technology, announces a growing roster of channel partners, two new additions to its product line and increased opportunities in the business and government communities.

Ilumisys, founded in 2007, is a spinoff of Altair Engineering, a global software and technology company that has a growing presence in the energy market. With the support of its majority owner, Ilumisys has a deep research and development background that includes more than 25 patent filings.

The company recently expanded its channel partner network to include companies covering the Northeast, Midwest and Southwest regions, including Chicago-based LED Lighting; Orange County-based IHNcorp. and Ecogreen Solutions; and New York City-based Greenlight Initiative.

The Ilumisys product line now includes the MK1 lighting tube, the recently launched MK2 lighting tube and the newly available CM 2x4 fixture. Patented circuitry enables ilumisys MK1 LEDs to operate in existing fluorescent fixtures, without modifications to the fixtures or ballasts. This allows users to simply remove an existing fluorescent tube and replace it with the ilumisys MK1 product. The ilumisys MK2 runs off of 120 VAC and 277 VAC building currents.

The CM 2x4  fixture is designed to fit in the same space as any other ceiling fixture of the same size, and has one of the lowest profiles on the market. By utilizing ilumisys’s MK2 tubes, the CM 2x4 is easily upgradable to the latest in LED technology. In addition, the CM 2x4 was developed within Altair’s award-winning industrial design studio with an aesthetically elegant yet functional design.

“Our patented circuitry enables our products to operate in existing fluorescent fixtures without modifications, allowing users to simply remove an existing fluorescent tube and drop in the Ilumisys replacement, saving energy and money over time,” said Dave Simon, president of Ilumisys. “Businesses and governmental groups can transition their operations easily to solid state lighting without incurring costly infrastructure changes."

Unlike the fluorescent tubes they replace, the ilumisys tubes are energy-efficient and mercury-free, reducing toxic pollutants. The 500 million to 600 million fluorescent tubes discarded annually in the United States introduce an estimated two to four tons of toxic mercury into the environment per year, despite industry and government efforts to limit mercury content and encourage recycling.

Additionally, DTE Energy has installed two tubes each in four fixtures in the Walker Cisler building at its Detroit headquarters. DTE Energy is working with Ilumisys to provide feedback on the performance of the tubes. This will help Ilumisys improve the design and functionality of its lighting technology.

Ilumisys president Simon spoke at the ArchLED Conference in Chicago Wednesday regarding solid state lighting adoption in the Midwest. He showcased some of the first viable indoor applications and offer perspective on solid-state lighting’s potential to provide sustainable lighting solutions in the future.
