9-Vehicle Pileup Closes I-75 Southbound at Adams Road


Troy (WWJ)  -- A crash involving nine vehicles closed I-75 southbound south of Adams Road in Troy for several hours Monday morning.  Eight vehicles and one semi-truck were involved.  A
 
Troy police say 19-year old Kara Larivee of Rochester Hills woman was killed, while four other people were hurt.

Traffic was backed up to near M-59 as of 9:45 a.m.  Alternates include taking the M-59 to Crooks Road and rejoining I-75 from Crooks Road.  The freeway re-opened around 2 p.m.

Police were allowing vehicles to turn around on the freeway to avoid the area.

WWJ's Ron Dewey reports from the scene that some people are trapped in vehicles that are pinned under the full-size moving van.

Troy police say the truck driver which apparently started the chain-reaction crash is 71 years old and from Illinois.   He has been released pending the outcome of the investigation. 

A report on the crash will be presented to the Oakland County Prosecutor's office which will determine if any criminal charges will be filed.
