Detroit (WWJ) -- It was just a few weeks ago that Greektown Casino announced layoffs as part of its bankruptcy filing, but now it'll begin the hiring process for 400 employees at its new hotel and casino.
Greektown Casino spokesman Roger Martin says starting Thursday the company will be looking to fill all kinds of hotel and casino jobs for the permanent casino set to open in 2009.
"Some of these jobs will start as early as August. Most will be coming on board late in the year for training and licensing," Martin told WWJ's Beth Fisher.
Positions are available in the areas of hotel services, catering/banquet services, housekeeping/ environmental services, restaurant management, engineering/facilities, food and beverage, security and safety, purchasing, and sales.
Martin says the 89 employees laid off will have the first shot at these jobs.

Applicants who meet pre-screening criteria will be will be invited to attend a recruitment event later where they will be interviewed and receive professional image/attitude information, life skills information, and more. Only pre-screened applicants will be invited to the recruitment event and be considered for jobs in the hotel.
