The Bingham Farms health information exchange my1HIE LLC Wednesday announced that doctors with the Huron Valley Physicians Associationwill now participate in the exchange.
My1HIE (an acronym for My One Health Information Exchange) also announced it had selected WellCentive Registry from Atlanta, Ga.-based WellCentive LLC as its patient registry and disease management system.
My1HIE is a health information exchange launched in November 2008. Four physician organizations representing more than 3,000 physicians are already committed to my1HIE, and there are discussions in the works with at least four additional physician organizations representing an additional 2,000 physicians.
Huron Valley Physicians Association will join three other physician organizations and participate in myWorkspace, the physician Web portal, to improve patient care and reduce healthcare costs.
Designed by physicians for physicians and under development with Compuware Corp.'s Covisint business unit for the past two years, my1HIE enables physicians to share vital patient information and collaborate on patient care with other physicians and healthcare providers. my1HIE members have access to the most accurate, real-time patient information available; resulting in better decision making and a higher quality of patient care.
“Connectivity between physicians and the ability for them to coordinate the care they provide is a key element of any effort to improve care and reform the whole care process," said HVPA president Paul Harkaway, M.D. "The absence of that connectivity and coordination is a primary flaw in the current system. We are excited about the opportunity to work with our colleagues to use the tools my1HIE offers to improve care and reduce health care costs by reducing medical errors and duplicate testing.”
Huron Valley Physicians Association was incorporated in 1985 as an independent physician association. HVPA has more than 750 physician members in Washtenaw, Livingston, Lenawee, and western Wayne counties. Approximately 25 percent of HVPA members are primary care physicians and 75 percent are specialists. HVPA activities are closely tied to the Saint Joseph Mercy Health System, a member of the Trinity Health System.
Meanwhile, WellCentive Registry combines the capabilities of a Web-based, community-wide, point-of-care all-patient registry system with custom interfacing, customizable alerts, targeted patient outreach, comprehensive reporting tools, secure messaging features and direct reporting of outcomes to a variety of payors. WellCentive Registry includes highly effective patient outreach tools, including an integrated automated telephone appointment and care reminder system called WellCentive Outreach.
“Michigan led the industrial age with manufacturing, and we are now a driving force in the health care industry’s adoption of new technologies by means of connecting physicians, labs, health plans, hospitals, electronic prescribing and other clinical applications -- with physicians leading the way,” said Steven D. Grant, MD President and CEO of United Physicians, PC. “This new partnership with WellCentive gives us an opportunity to expand the platform we initially created with my1HIE and continue to advance the physician adoption of innovative technology.”
