Walsh College Names Online Learning Dean: Troy resident Karen Rhoda has joined Walsh College as dean of the Division of Online Learning. She will provide overall direction and growth initiatives for the college's online programs. Rhoda joins Walsh after 19 years with The University of Toledo, where she was most recently associate dean for the Division of Distance Learning. While there, Rhoda secured more than $3.2 million in grants and gifts, much of which launched the University's online degree programs. Rhoda guided UT's distance learning program from its inception to 40 online accredited certificates, undergraduate, and graduate degree programs for more than 13,800 students. Currently, Rhoda is co-authoring "The Administration of Distance Learning in Higher Education: Benefits for a Changing Society", scheduled for publication in January. Her chapter, "The Role of Distance Education in Enhancing Accessibility of Adult Learners" is published in Best Practices for Adult Learning. Rhoda has presented at numerous state, regional, and international distance learning conferences. A 2005 paper co-authored on an e-writing center for the Annual Sloan-C International Conference on Asynchronous Learning Networks led to an invitation to apply for the 2006 Sloan Effective Practices Award, Faculty Satisfaction. Rhoda‘s bachelor's degree emphasizing, psychology and sociology, is from Indiana University, and she also attended Earlham College in Richmond, Ind., as a sociology major. Her Master of Arts in sociology and Ph.D. in sociological foundations of education with minor in sociology, are both from The University of Toledo.
