The federal government is suing Ecorse, claiming the Detroit-area city failed to take action when employees complained of sexual harassment.
The lawsuit centers on allegations from 2005 and 2006 against Gary Sammons, who was the city clerk before he was defeated in an election last year.
The U.S. Justice Department is alleging Sammons requested sex from a female co-worker. He's accused of touching her and another woman inappropriately and making sexually charged comments to them.
The lawsuit says Larry Salisbury, who was Ecorse's mayor at the time, failed to step in and stop the alleged harassment.
In response, Sammons says the allegations "didn't happen.'' Salisbury says he never received complaints.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in federal court in Detroit, seeks unspecified compensation for two women.
