GM To Unveil New Camaro

Southfield (WWJ)  -- The official unveiling is Monday afternoon, but photos and details of the 2010 Chevrolet Camaro have been leaked.

AutoTech Daily reports the car is nearly identical to the 2006 Camaro concept and pre-production photos shown this year. Three trim levels—LS, LT and SS—will be available.

It’s not clear if an RS version of the one seen in one of the leaked photos will make it into production.

The base engine will be a 296-hp 3.6-liter V-6, with a 416-hp 6.0-liter V-8 powering the SS model. Each engine can be mated with a choice of automatic or manual six-speeds.

Features will include a four-wheel independent suspension and, on the SS model, Brembo brakes. The interior also maintains the look of the concept with upscale accents, retro-themed gauges, LED lighting and a racing-inspired steering wheel.

Sales of the coupe are due to begin next February, with a convertible to follow in November.

GM hopes to sell more than 100,000 of the muscle cars per year.
