Flat Is Fabulous!
|
A key concept for kids to grasp is dimensions -- whether something is one dimension, like a line, two dimensions, like a square, or three dimensions, like a cube. Jeff Brown’s classic childrens book "Flat Stanley" can help give your child a way to think about how different the world is if you are two dimensional.
Stanley is a little boy who is made flat, and uses his new shape to help his family – he can get into the smallest of spaces, and even travel in an envelope through the mail. For older students, the classic work "Flatland" by Edwin Abbott can show them what three dimensional objects look like in a two dimensional world.
