Finding Legit Web Sites

A web site claiming that octopi live in trees? You can find almost anything on the Internet! And you can help your middle schooler become a smart and savvy reader of information on the web, someone who can distinguish between good and not-so-good websites.

Begin by pulling up some websites to look at together.  Look at where the information comes from, who sponsors the site, and how up-to-date it is. Then talk together why some sites are more informative and reliable than others.

You can even create a family guide for what makes Internet sites useful or believable. Smart readers are critical readers and users of information—and you can help your middle schooler learn those skills!
