Ferndale High School Celebrates 50 Years

Ferndale (WWJ)  -- Friday, Oct. 10 is a big day for Ferndale High School, which opened in 1958. The school is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a special Homecoming celebration and parade down 9 Mile to the High School on Pinecrest.

School officials have invited all alumni to attend the activities. The alums include the school's principal, Herb Ivory, who graduated in 1965, in the era of Motown Music and 12-cent burgers.

Ivory recalls that you could buy a whole bag of burgers at Peppy's on 9 Mile back then for a buck. Ivory says the school, which has a new football stadium, looks better now than it did when he was in school.
