Family Field Trip To Dinner!
|
Next time you eat out with your children for dinner, show them how math can come along too! Begin by giving each child a total amount they can spend for their whole meal, say $12 including the tip.
Then work with them in adding up the total of their menu food choices; do they have enough left for a 15% tip? Help them determine that a 15% tip on a $12 meal is $1.80 so they can’t spend more than $10.20 on the actual meal items.
All this math may lead to making alternative menu decisions in order to stay within the given budget, but this exercise helps children practice their math skills while including a subtle lesson in personal budgeting.
So take math to dinner the next time you and your family eat out! |
