Employees Do Not Fear Identity Theft at Work

Despite rising concerns over identity theft, 88 percent of employees are confident their company protects their personal information from identity theft, according to a survey by the American Payroll Association.

Among the other findings:
  • About 59 percent of employees are very certain that the payroll withholding and the net amount of their paycheck are correct each payday. Nearly 29 percent were “somewhat certain.”
  • About 46 percent of respondents were for a universal healthcare system for the United States. Just over 28 percent said they were against it and almost 26 percent were not sure.
  • Almost 71 percent said it would be very difficult or somewhat difficult for them to meet their financial obligations if their paychecks were delayed by a week.
  • Nearly 50 percent said the Social Security system should be changed to allow employees to invest part of their Social Security contributions in private investment accounts.
  • Only about 43 percent said their companies offer a defined benefit retirement plan, but 89 percent said their companies offer a defined contribution plan, such as a 401(k) plan.
  • Almost 74 percent said their companies offer a flexible spending account.
