Dow Bringing Hundreds of New Jobs To Metro Detroit

Lansing (WWJ/AP)  -- Hundreds of new jobs are coming to Southeast Michigan  Governor Jennifer Granholm Tuesday announced that Dow Chemical in Midland is partnering with a plastics firm in Kuwait and will bring 800 new jobs to Metro Detroit.

The headquarters of the company is expected to be built somewhere along the I-94 corridor near Metro Airport.  WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick says this is an $11 billion venture.

In December, Dow announced plans to sell a 50 percent interest in five of its global businesses to the subsidiary of state-owned Kuwait Petroleum Corp. for about $9.5 billion to form the venture.

The companies say James Fitterling will serve as CEO of the venture. Fitterling is business group president for Dow Basic Plastics.
