Doubletree Opens In Downtown Detroit

DETROIT (WWJ)  -- Following a $90 million dollar renovation, Doubletree Guest Suites Hotel has opened its doors in the Fort Shelby Hotel building in downtown Detroit.

Shannon Dunavent, General Manager Suites Hotel talked with WWJ's Pat Sweeting about her goals in going after conventions. "I think, as a collective group, we are looking at feeder cities such as Indianappolis, even Chicago, that have conventions that make sense for our city," Dunavent said.

"So, we are not looking at one particular group -- we're looking at everything. Because, certainly, all of us will prosper from that," she said.

The Double Tree is the only International Association of Conference Centers certified hotel in Detroit. Dunavent says the hotel has certain amenities for conferences that would set it apart from others in the city.
