Detroit Police Involved In Deadly Shooting

Detroit (WWJ)  -- Detroit police officers shot and killed a man on the city's westside early Friday morning.  Police say officers responded to a complaint of a man riding a bike with a gun on Appoline near I-96 and Wyoming.

The man crashed his bike into a car and as police approached the man he allegedly pointed a gun at officers.   Police shot the man.  No officers were injured.

WWJ's Pat Vitale reports family members, who identified the man as 35-year old Robert Hill, were yelling at investigators at the scene of the shooting early Friday morning as the investigation was ongoing.  The family claims Hill was shot in the back several times.

Police spokesman James Tate confirms police fired multiple shots.  Tate says its unclear if the man had the gun in a book bag or in his waistband.  An investigation is ongoing.

This is the second fatal shooting involving Detroit Police this week.   On Monday,  a man wanted in a suspected drive-by shooting and carjacking was shot near the Davison and Linwood after he pointed a gun at officers.
