Detroit Automaker To Cut Jobs In Chicago

Chicago (WWJ)  -- More job losses at Ford - this time, they're in the Windy City.

Ford is cutting 600 part-time jobs at its Chicago assembly plant when it drops one of two shifts at the plant in November.

In addition, an unspecified number of full-time hourly and salaried employees may also lose their jobs at the plant, which employs about 2,200.

The drop to a single shift is due to falling sales of the vehicles produced at the plant: Ford Taurus, Taurus X, Mercury Sable and Lincoln MKS.

Ford hints that it may also eliminate some jobs at its Chicago Heights stamping plant, which produces body panels for the Chicago assembly plant.
