Deadly Accident On I-94 Near Metro Airport

Romulus (WWJ)  -- Michigan State Police say criminal charges are likely after a deadly accident on westbound I-94 near Metro Airport.  The wreck and investigation caused police to shutdown westbound lanes for about five hours Friday afternoon.

A preliminary investigation shows that an eastbound driver lost control of his truck and crossed the median hitting a car that was traveling on westbound I-94 near Wayne Road.  The truck continued across four lanes of westbound I-94 and flipped over a guardrail into a ditch.

The driver of the westbound car, identified by State Police as 41-year old Ibrahim Kadhum Alkazaihi, was killed.

The driver and a passenger in the truck were taken to Annapolis Hospital.

Two other vehicles were damaged.  However occupants were not seriously injured and were treated and released from the scene.

Investigators say alcohol and/or drugs appears to be a factor in the crash.  Criminal charges are pending against the driver of the truck.

An investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information about the crash should call Michigan State Police Trooper Rowe at 734-287-5000.
