UM TEAM DEFENDS ITS TITLE AS CHAMPS OF THE NORTH AMERICAN SOLAR CHALLENGE

Hail to the victors. A University of Michigan team has once again claimed the title of champions of North American solar car racing.

UM’s Solar Car Team and its car, Continuum, won the North American Solar Challenge. It crossed the finish line in Alberta, Canada, Tuesday to defend UM's title from 2005, the last year the race was held. It was the fifth time UM finished first in the competition.

Solar car racing does not have the same intensity as, say, an Indy Car race. But what the Solar Challenge contestants lack in raw speed and horsepower, they make up for in endurance and ingenuity. The course covers 2,400 miles from Plano, Texas. to Calgary. The UM team won after more than 50 hours of racing over nine days. More...

GROUP RELEASES UPDATED STATE TAX SUMMARY: The Lansing-based Citizens Research Council of Michigan Wednesday released a revised edition of its "Outline of the Michigan Tax System." The publication includes summaries of all taxes levied by state and local government in Michigan. It contains information about tax bases and rates, credits and exemptions, tax administration and reporting. It also provides a statistical and legal history for each major tax, provides links to state agencies, and contains summaries of recent tax legislation. More...
