Detroit (WWJ) -- For the first time in three decades, the Detroit Medical Center will be expanding at its downtown campus.
DMC and Children's Hospital of Michigan executives, including CEO Mike Duggan, said Thursday a new, 5-story, 34-million dollar outpatient pediatric center will be constructed right across the street from Children's Hospital.
Hospital president, Herman Grey says the new center will help children and families.
"We're doing something good for children and families and that's how you build strong communities, that's how you build a strong city, that's how you build a strong state and country," Grey said.
The medical center will tear down a nursing home to make room for the center. Duggan said for two years workers have seen a boarded up nursing home and "it drives me nuts."
Groundbreaking for the new facility is expected next March. The center is expected to open in Spring of 2010. |
