Consumers Energy announced Wednesday that Michigan's new energy laws will boost career opportunities at the Jackson-based utility.
This month Consumers Energy recruiters are visiting Michigan colleges and universities including Kettering University, Lawrence Technological University, Michigan State University, Wayne State University, Western Michigan University, Delta College, Jackson Community College and Lansing Community College.
Also, utility employees are increasing student awareness through energy efficiency and career opportunity presentations at middle schools and high schools throughout Michigan.

Consumers says the new law will allow it to implement its Going Forward strategy fully. The strategy calls for investing $6.4 billion in Michigan over the next five years, including investments in energy efficiency, renewable energy, environmental and customer service enhancements, and new power generation.
"We know that in order to have a 'ready-to-go' workforce in the future we must begin that awareness and recruitment process today," said Paulette Boggs, director of staffing and diversity. "October is Energy Awareness Month and this provides an ideal time to alert young people to good career opportunities in the utility field, particularly in engineering, information technology, business, accounting and finance."
Consumers Energy employees are also presenting the award-winning Hazard Hamlet and Respect the Flags presentations to elementary students. Those presentations teach important lessons about being safe around electricity and natural gas, and can be reserved by sending an e-mail to: education@consumersenergy.com.
Consumers Energy, the principal subsidiary of CMS Energy, provides natural gas and electricity to nearly 6.5 million of Michigan's 10 million residents in all 68 Lower Peninsula counties.
