Detroit (WWJ) -- Area political and business leaders gathered on stage at Campus Martius Park on Tuesday to herald the approach of three very exciting days in the D. Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick outlined the events that will have fun seekers making their way between Belle Isle and the city of Detroit Labor Day Weekend.
The 3 Days In The D celebration includes the Detroit Grand Prix, Chrysler Arts Beats & Eats and the Detroit International Jazz Festival, beginning August 29
WWJ Newsradio 950's Pat Sweeting talked with the Grand Prix's Bud Danker, who said ticket sales are running
25 percent higher than last year. "They're lining up for all three days," Danker said. "Not just one day or two days , but they're coming for all three days this year ."
Danker said in addition to the grandstand seats that place spectators close to the action, for some, there will be a new place to view this year, "We've also erected some sponsor suites, 8 feet from the race track so when people come out this year, they're gonna see a lot of excitement," he said. Danked said in addition to the race itself, Grand Prix patrons will enjoy live music and a Meijer Family Fun Zone.
