Classes, no Place for Naps

If you are sending a child off to college this fall, you should stress the importance of showing up, being on time, and communicating with faculty.

The Early College Alliance at Eastern Michigan University has developed a curriculum to help students succeed at college, and the first lesson is “suit up and show up.” In other words, you need to come to class, be on time, sit at the front, and stay engaged with the class until it is over.

If you do need to miss class, letting the professor know ahead of time can help. Many high school students go off to college with the idea that attendance is optional – help them understand how critical attendance is to their success.
