Chamber Of Commerce To Block Initiative

Lansing (WWJ)  -- A proposal to reform Michigan is headed to the courts. WWJ Lansing Bureau Chief Tim Skubick reports.

The Reform Michigan Government Now petition drive seeks to revamp part of Michigan’s constitution. The Michigan Chamber and coalition called Citizens Protecting Michigan's Constitution say this is in fact a revision of the Michigan Constitution and they don't want it on the ballot.

"What we have is a proposal with 28 sections. It’s so complex it doesn’t measure up to an amendment,” said Bob LeBrant, the Michigan Chamber's Senior Vice President of Political Affairs.

The Michigan Chamber of Commerce says the revamping is illegal and, along with other coalition groups, will ask the Michigan’s Appellate Court to bar it from the ballot.
