Blackwell Allowed To Travel, Awaits Enbezzlement Trial
Detroit (WWJ) -- Wayne County Circuit Court Judge Edward Ewell reversed a lower court ruling, Friday, allowing Art Blackwell to travel while he awaits trial on embezzlement charges.
Blackwell who is facing charges for embezzlement involving his service as emergency financial manager of Highland Park said it's only fair that he is treated like all other defendants.
“He [Judge Ewell] seemed reasonable, he's saying that I should be treated like everybody else and allowed to travel, in my case for business purposes, where other people are allowed to travel for vacation,” he said.
Judge Ewell rejected prosecution arguments that Blackwell, who owns a condo in Canada, is a flight risk.
Blackwell said he needs to travel to Canada to try and sell his Condo that is in foreclosure.
“I'm ready for my day in court, I'm ready to have everybody I dealt with on stand, under oath, from the governor all the way down to whoever's involved. This is ridiculous,” Blackwell said.
